Solution Focused Hypnotherapy

Change your focus. Change your response.
Create a different future.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines positive psychotherapy, neuroscience-informed techniques and hypnosis to help you move away from unhelpful patterns and towards the changes you want to make.
Rather than spending a lot of time analysing everything that has happened in the past, we focus on where you are now, where you want to be, and what can help you get there.
The approach works with the way the brain responds to thoughts, emotions, habits and experiences, helping you develop more useful ways of thinking and responding.

What can Solution Focused Hypnotherapy help with?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can be helpful for a wide range of issues, particularly where stress, anxiety, habits, burnout, fatigue or emotional responses are getting in the way of everyday life.

Stress & Anxiety

When the mind is constantly anticipating problems, worrying or staying on high alert, it can become difficult to relax and think clearly.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help you develop a calmer response to stressful situations, reduce unhelpful thought patterns and build greater confidence in your ability to cope.

Low Mood & Emotional Wellbeing

Sometimes it can feel as though your mind has become stuck in a negative cycle.
The sessions focus on helping you notice what is already working, build positive resources and gradually create new patterns of thinking and behaviour that support a more balanced outlook.

Why you can feel exhausted even when you’re resting

Sometimes fatigue isn’t simply about how much you have done.
You can have an early night, sleep for hours and still wake up feeling as though your battery hasn’t recharged. Your body feels heavy, your thoughts are slower, your concentration isn’t what it normally is, and even small tasks can feel surprisingly demanding.

One reason may be that your brain has been working much harder than you realise.
When life feels stressful for long periods, the brain can remain on alert. The body’s stress response involves hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline, while neurotransmitters including dopamine, serotonin and noradrenaline play important roles in mood, motivation, attention and mental energy.
This system is incredibly useful when we need to respond to a challenge. The problem comes when the brain rarely gets the opportunity to properly switch off.

You may notice:

  • waking up tired despite having enough time in bed
  • difficulty concentrating or remembering things
  • a feeling of mental “fog”
  • racing or repetitive thoughts at night
  • becoming easily overwhelmed or irritable
  • relying on caffeine to keep going
  • feeling exhausted but unable to truly relax

And then a frustrating cycle can develop: stress affects sleep, poor sleep affects the brain, and an exhausted brain finds stress harder to manage.

So where does hypnotherapy fit in?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy works with the brain’s ability to change patterns.

Through conversation, positive attention and guided relaxation, hypnotherapy can help you move away from constantly analysing problems and towards developing calmer, more useful patterns of thinking.
Insted of focusing on what you don’t want, solution focused hypnotherapy helps you to focus on what you really want.

Relaxation can give your nervous system a chance to step out of constant alertness. With better awareness of your thoughts and habits, you can begin to create new associations around sleep, rest, focus and everyday stress.
It isn’t about forcing yourself to relax or pretending that life isn’t stressful.
It is about helping your brain learn that it doesn’t have to be switched on all the time.
If you have been feeling tired, foggy or mentally overloaded for a while, it may be worth paying attention to what your mind has been carrying — not just how much sleep you are getting.
Sometimes your body isn’t asking you to do more.
It is asking you to give your brain a different kind of rest.

Phobias & Fears

A phobia can create a powerful automatic response to something that your rational mind knows is not necessarily dangerous. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help you change the way your brain responds to the trigger and develop a calmer, more confident response.
Simple phobias can often be addressed in around 4 sessions, although the number of sessions depends on the individual and the nature of the phobia.

Smoking Cessation

Stopping smoking is not simply about willpower. Smoking can become strongly connected with routines, emotions,  situations and automatic habits. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help you understand how your brain works when you crave smoking,  change your relationship with smoking, break the associations that keep the habit going and strengthen your motivation to become a non-smoker.
For smoking cessation, 1–2 sessions are often sufficient, depending on your circumstances and level of readiness to stop.

Weight Management

Weight management is not just about food. Eating can become connected with emotions, stress, habits, boredom or automatic behaviours. The focus is not on a strict diet and moving more, but on helping you develop a healthier relationship with food and make choices that support your wellbeing. I won’t give you a new diet and an exercise plan. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help you become more aware of your patterns, reduce emotional or habitual eating and strengthen the mindset needed to make sustainable changes.

What does a course of therapy look like?

For many issues, a course of around 8–10 weekly sessions is recommended.
Each session is tailored to you and your individual goals. We focus on what you would like to change and on building practical strategies that you can use between sessions.
You will also receive personalised audio to listen to between sessions, helping you continue the process at home and reinforce the work we do together.
Some issues may require fewer sessions, while more complex or long-standing difficulties may benefit from additional support.

Your first step

You don’t have to know exactly what you need before you begin. We start by talking about what is happening for you, what you would like to change and whether Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a suitable approach.
Let’s focus on where you want to go — rather than staying stuck in where you’ve been, or what you want to avoid.
